This is WAY more than you want to know about SOUTH STREET STEAKS.....

South Street Steaks was started back in 2005 by three recent college grads who saw the need for a decent sandwich in the DC metro area. Two of the owners grew up in Philadelphia, eating at all the famous cheesesteak places such as Pats, Delessandros and their personal favorite, Jim’s Steaks on South Street (which is how they got the idea for the name). We spent our college years down in Maryland/DC and realized that nobody had figured out how to re-create the cheesesteak….though many had tried.

In April, 2005 we signed a lease for our first space in downtown College Park, at the University of Maryland. In 2007 we received the Washingtonian award for “Best Dirt Cheap Eats.” We had numerous newspaper write-ups, including one in the Philadelphia Inquirer and Washington Post. In October of 2008 we opened up our second location in Gaithersburg, Md. The third location in downtown Bethesda, Md soon followed in early March 2009.

While the College Park store has since closed down, our other store continues to succeed and our cheesesteaks are constantly being hailed as the best cheesesteaks “outside of Philly.” That’s all we ever wanted.
